Day 1: GREATER JOY
Psalm 66 and John 15:11
“I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart. Where? Down in my heart. Where? Down in my…down in my heart to stay.”
If you spent any time in Sunday School as a child you probably learned this song and loved to yell out the “Where!” part and do all the hand motions. As children we understand joy to mean an excitement in our hearts that causes us to shout, wave our hands, and just be out-right excited. As adults the joy that comes with faith underlies all that we do and say. We still might shout or sing at the top of our lungs (as good Presbyterians we probably only do it while we are singing along with the car radio) but joy has, hopefully, become a way of life.
In our two passages we are called to remember the awesome deeds of the Lord and that Christ came so our joy would be complete. Our joy in Christ is complete when we conform our hearts and actions to His will. What greater joy could there be than to know that we walk in step with the will of our Heavenly Father?
Prayer: Lord, Grant me this day a full knowledge of this joy that Christ provides; that I may walk in it, live in it, demonstrate it to all whom I meet, and reflect Your presence in all that I do. In Jesus’ name. Amen
