Day 15: GREATER SACRIFICE

Philippians 3:1-11 and Psalm 116

Paul tells us that he counts “everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ.” In the context of this passage Paul has shared that all of his efforts at making himself worthy of God’s love were futile. Now that he has come to this reality, and that is exactly what it is – reality, that in Christ we are provided with what we need, Paul realizes that everything else in his life is of secondary importance. Paul has put everything to the side so that he may “know Christ and Him crucified.”

You may not be called to full-time ministry like Paul was, but do you view the things of the world in the way that Paul did? Are you willing to sacrifice them for the purposes of the Lord? When we talk of greater sacrifice it is serious business, because to pray that God will work in your heart and show you how you can give more is to ask Him to reorder your priorities. Paul didn’t just reorder his priorities; he tossed everything that was before Christ out the window. What are you ready to do?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I ask taht You will show me how I can live sacrificially.  Show me how I should view all that I have in this world as Yours and then to act in faith because of it.  Move in my heart Lord, so ath the decisions  I make are done in joy and for the privilege of serving Your Kingdom.  In Christ's name I pray.  Amen.
