Day 5: GREATER UNDERSTANDING

Psalm 119:33-40

It’s not that we hope to ever fully understand God, but our desire as believers should be to seek a greater understanding or exercise of our mind in our faith. What we understand of God’s desire for us in worship, how we understand our role in the furthering of His perfect will, how we understand the application of His promises to the Church and individual believers – all of these are things we can and should seek to know. Most importantly we should seek to understand how we are to live in light of His Word. Jeremiah 6:16 tells us, “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it.”

Believers are not to work hard at understanding the things of the world, but are to “turn their eyes from looking at worthless things; and give us life in Your ways” (vs. 37). When we understand God’s Word then we can resolve with our whole hearts, minds, and wills to follow His Word. As the Psalmist says, “in your righteousness give me life.”

Prayer:  Lord, grant me understanding of Your Word that I may see Your ways and walk in them.  Give me the willing heart, the understanding eyes, and the ears to hear that in all that I do I might understand You more.  In the name of Jesus I pray.  Amen.
